Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire resides in a quiet area of Montreal Island called West Island. The West Island can be confusing to people unfamiliar to its significance. Many people believe that it's an island located that lies west of Montreal However, it is actually a part of the city. West Island encompasses everything between the cities in Lachine as well as West. Amanda Brugel's birthplace has been frequently cited, however her short visit to the West Island was not. Brugel grew-up in Courtice close to Oshawa, Ontario. She aspired to be professional, however due to an explosive increase in her height, she outgrew every dance partner she met. The Toronto Star article revealed she's 6ft 1in tall in heels. As I grew older than my male companions, I quit. A lot of former dancers go on to acting and in the case of Brugel, it was a nudge from the drama instructor at her high school which encouraged her to go in that direction. The teacher who suggested she pursue a role for the annual school production. She tried out and eventually got the role of the main character in Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program and graduated with an Associate of Fine Arts degree in 2000. In the 20+ years since, Brugel has landed roles on more than 60 productions across small and big screens drawing the most media attention after she was offered the part as Rita in the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel is the only Canadian actor on the show in the season 1 and only appeared at times.
